The Queensland State Government have updated its Advance Manufacturing 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan to support and improve manufacturing growth sectors in Queensland.  The Roadmap, has not been updated since 2016, contains more than 17 actions to position Queensland as a leader in advanced manufacturing technologies, products, systems, and services.

The four key target areas aim to increase the adoption of leading-edge design, drive the ongoing development of the manufacturing workforce, showcase achievements, and support regional manufactures.

“The industry is vital to our state’s economy, employing almost 180,000 people, contributing over $19.2 billion to the economy and driving innovation across a range of growth sectors,” said Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland, Minister for Trade.

One of the Roadmap targets that has already been carried is the State Government delivering manufacturing hubs in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton to assist local manufacturers.

“Each hub will develop strong links with local universities and schools to develop a workforce with strong skills in science, technology, engineering and maths,” said Cameron Dick, Minister for manufacturing, infrastructure, and planning.

The Queensland State Government says it will be working closely with local manufacturers through its Ministerial Manufacturing Committee to help businesses increase their international productivity and competitiveness, and to adopt processes and technologies.

The Queensland Advanced Manufacturing 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan is one of six industry roadmaps developed as part of the Queensland Government’s Advance Queensland program.

The roadmap sets out actions for the next 10 years, outlining targets through to 2026.
